Indian food is extremely popular worldwide especially, in Australia, thanks to its delicious taste, amazing flavours, authentic spices and a wide variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Here are some of the most popular and favourite Indian dishes that should be tried out by everyone as there is no chance of you not loving them. India is a land of cultural diversity. You could get a reflection of its diversity in its cuisine.

Biryani

Biryani is a famous and widely popular Indian main course dish. It is basically a mouth-watering aromatic rice dish that is infused with several spices, rose water, saffron and either chicken or mutton. There are two types of biryani. Biryani from Hyderabad is spicy, delicious and comes with a raita and saalan. Biryani from Lucknow is flavoursome and incredibly tasty. Most Indian restaurants have Biryani in their menu.

Tandoori Chicken

This is a North Indian delicacy that has become immensely popular all over the world. It is there in practically, every Indian restaurant menu in any part of the world. Tandoori chicken has gained an iconic status thanks to its finger licking goodness.

The chicken is left marinated for just a few hours. The marinade comprises mainly of thick or hung yogurt and a wide mix of spices including Kashmiri red chilli powder, turmeric, garam masala, chaat masala, etc. A bright orange food colour is often used to give the dish its distinctive look.

The chicken that has been marinated in all those wonderful spices is then roasted in a tandoor or a clay oven. This is an exceptionally tasty dish thanks to the tangy yogurt, lovely spices and the smoky smell. It is usually enjoyed with drinks.

Naan

This is famous Indian flat bread. Naan is just right for Indian gravy dishes. Naan is cooked typically in a tandoor. The naan dough is to be prepared beforehand and allowed to rest and rise.

Malai Kofta

Malai kofta is an immensely popular vegetarian delicacy that features in all Indian restaurant menus across the world. It is usually, served on special occasions. It takes a lot of time, energy and effort to prepare this mouth-watering dish. Malai kofta is usually, made from paneer or cottage cheese and is a vegetarian version of the meatballs curry. The paneer balls have a unique taste of their own and the rich, smooth gravy takes them to a whole new level. It is served as a side dish with Naan or tandoori roti.

Dosa

This is a South Indian delight. It is made using a rice batter just like pancakes. But these are larger, thinner and crispier version of typical pancakes. However, dosas mostly come with a tasty and spicy potato filling inside. Dosa is served with a chutney and sambhar. It could be served for breakfast, lunch or even dinner. It is an all-time favourite dish enjoyed by both adults and kids.

Gajar Ka Halwa

It is an extremely popular Indian dessert that you should never miss. It is made from grated carrot, sugar, condensed milk and loads of dry fruits. It is served hot as a wintertime dessert.
